Originally launched in arcade cabinets and on systems like the Nintendo Entertainment System, the early Ninja Gaiden titles offered side-scrolling action. However, the rebooted series evolved into 3D format and significantly ramped up the difficulty. It also embraced more graphic violence, now become a signature trait of the series.
